Hemp THC · Updated October 2026

Where to buy legal THC drinks in Ohio.

Yes, you can still buy THC drinks in Ohio — but only at a licensed dispensary. Since March 20, 2026, hemp THC seltzers and sodas are gone from bars, breweries, grocery stores and gas stations. The drinks have moved to where Ohio law now requires them to be sold.

Why THC drinks disappeared from Ohio stores and bars

Senate Bill 56 took effect on March 20, 2026. Under the new law, any beverage with more than 0.4 mg of total THC per container is marijuana, not hemp — however the THC was made. It's a per-container limit, so a single seltzer with 5 mg of THC is well over it. Hemp THC seltzers, delta 9 drinks and craft THC beverages can now only be sold by a dispensary licensed by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control.

A grace period that would have let hemp THC drinks stay on sale through the end of 2026 was vetoed when the bill was signed. Read more in Senate Bill 56, explained.

Yes, when they're sold by a licensed dispensary that meets Ohio's testing, packaging and labeling standards. To buy:

  • Adult-use: be 21 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID.
  • Medical: have an active Ohio patient registration. Patients 18 and older register on their own; patients under 18 need a parent or legal guardian as their caregiver.
  • Every visit: bring your ID.

THC drinks may be legal in neighboring states such as Michigan, but bringing cannabis across state lines is illegal. Buy in Ohio, keep it in Ohio.

How dispensary THC drinks are dosed

Dispensary THC drinks come in single-serve cans, bottles and shots, each dosed at a fixed amount of THC printed on the label. Like other edibles, effects take time to start and vary from person to person. A few rules of thumb:

  • Read the label first. Total THC per container is the number that matters.
  • Start low, go slow. Wait before having more, especially if you're new.
  • Don't drive. Plan a ride or wait.

Questions

Common questions about THC drinks in Ohio.

Are THC drinks still legal in Ohio?

Yes, when sold by a dispensary licensed by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control. Since Senate Bill 56 took effect on March 20, 2026, bars, breweries, grocery stores and gas stations can't sell them.

Why were THC drinks pulled from stores and bars?

They were reclassified. Under Senate Bill 56, any beverage with more than 0.4 mg of total THC per container is marijuana under Ohio law, so only licensed dispensaries that meet state testing, packaging and labeling rules can sell it.

Can bars or restaurants still sell THC drinks in Ohio?

No. A proposed grace period that would have let hemp THC beverages stay on sale through the end of 2026 was vetoed when the bill was signed. Only licensed dispensaries can sell THC drinks in Ohio.

Can I bring THC drinks back from Michigan?

No. Cannabis bought in another state isn't legal to possess in Ohio under Senate Bill 56, and crossing state lines with cannabis is illegal under federal law.
