What our budtenders hear most.
Who can legally buy cannabis in Maryland?
Adults 21 and older can buy recreational cannabis at any licensed Maryland dispensary with a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, including out-of-state IDs. Medical patients buy through Maryland's medical program once they have a provider certification and an active registration with the Maryland Cannabis Administration. Patients under 18 can only obtain medical cannabis through a registered caregiver. Maryland does not accept out-of-state medical cards.
Do I need a medical card to buy cannabis in Maryland?
No. Recreational sales began on July 1, 2023, so anyone 21 or older can buy at a licensed Maryland dispensary with a valid ID. A medical card still has advantages: patient purchases are not subject to Maryland's 12% cannabis sales tax, and patients buy against a 30-day supply set by their provider rather than the recreational limit.
How much cannabis can I buy at one time in Maryland?
Recreational customers can buy up to Maryland's personal use amount: 1.5 ounces of flower, 12 grams of concentrate, or cannabis products containing up to 750 mg of THC. Medical patients' limits follow their certification — the standard is 120 grams of flower or 36 grams of THC over a rolling 30 days. Limits can change, so check the Maryland Cannabis Administration for the latest rules.
