What drives Ohio dispensary prices
- Taxes. Adult-use purchases carry a 10% excise tax on top of state and county sales tax.
- A regulated supply chain. Every product is grown and processed by state-licensed operators, tested by state-licensed labs and tracked by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control. Those licensing and testing costs are part of the price.
- Brand tier. A value eighth and a premium eighth can sit $20 or more apart for the same weight, reflecting differences in cultivar, cure and trim.

How Ohio cannabis tax works at checkout
Adult-use cannabis carries a 10% excise tax, plus Ohio's 5.75% state sales tax and a county sales tax. At Bloom's Ohio stores, that's between 16.5% and 18% in total, depending on the county. Senate Bill 56 kept the excise tax at 10%. See the rate at every Bloom store in Ohio cannabis tax.
Medical vs. adult-use pricing
Registered Ohio medical patients are exempt from the 10% excise tax and pay only state and county sales tax — between 6.5% and 8% at Bloom's stores. On a $50 purchase, that's about $5 less in tax. Learn who qualifies in the Ohio medical marijuana card guide.
Ways to save at Ohio dispensaries
- Buy bigger sizes. Quarters, half ounces and ounces cost less per gram than eighths.
- Buy multi-packs. Pre-roll packs cost less per pre-roll than singles.
- Watch for deals. Daily and category specials change often; check your store's specials page.
- Join the rewards program. Bloom's Ohio rewards program earns points on purchases at any Bloom Ohio store.
How to judge value beyond the sticker
- Price per gram or per milligram. The fairest way to compare products of different sizes.
- Brand tier. Cure and trim quality can matter more than the THC number.
- The label. THC and terpenes together tell you more than THC alone.
- Freshness. Check the package date on flower.
- Convenience. The closest store often beats a farther one with a small discount, once you count time and gas.

At Bloom Ohio, a 3.5 g eighth of flower typically runs about $35 to $52 before tax, with some premium flower higher. Smalls and value flower sit at the low end.
How much tax do you pay on cannabis in Ohio?
Adult-use purchases carry a 10% excise tax plus state and county sales tax — between 16.5% and 18% in total at Bloom's Ohio stores, depending on the county. Registered medical patients pay only sales tax, between 6.5% and 8% at Bloom.
What's the cheapest way to buy cannabis in Ohio?
Larger flower sizes cost less per gram than eighths, multi-packs cost less per pre-roll than singles, and dispensary deals and rewards lower the price further. Registered medical patients also skip the 10% excise tax.

No. Each dispensary sets its own prices and deals, and county sales tax varies, so the same product can cost a little more or less from one store to the next.
Is cannabis cheaper in Columbus?
Not necessarily. Columbus has many dispensaries, which keeps shelf prices competitive, but Franklin County's 8% sales tax rate puts the adult-use total at 18% — the highest of Bloom's Ohio stores.
